What Is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic care is a hands-on, drug-free approach to diagnosing and treating problems of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. It works from the principle that when the spine and nervous system function properly, the body is far better equipped to heal itself. Chiropractors use gentle adjustments and manual techniques to correct misalignment, reduce nerve irritation, and restore normal movement.
The practical version is simpler than the theory. Your spine is a stack of moving joints that is supposed to distribute load evenly and let you bend, twist, and turn freely. When one segment stops moving the way it should, whether from an injury, a posture you hold for hours a day, or years of repetitive work, the segments around it take up the slack. That produces irritation, muscle guarding, and eventually pain, and it rarely stays confined to where it started.
An adjustment restores motion to a joint that has lost it. Patients often notice an immediate change in how freely they move, and over a course of care the surrounding muscles stop bracing and the irritation settles.
Chiropractic care suits people at every stage of life, from children through older adults, and the emphasis throughout is on non-invasive, drug-free solutions. Beyond adjustments, care commonly includes soft tissue work, therapeutic exercise, and practical guidance on posture and ergonomics, because what you do the other 167 hours of the week determines whether the results hold.
What Chiropractic Care Helps With
People most often associate chiropractic care with back pain, and that is a large part of it. The range is broader than that, because the same joint restriction and nerve irritation show up in a variety of ways depending on where in the spine they occur.
Common reasons patients see our chiropractor include:
- Low back pain, from muscle strain, poor mechanics, disc issues, or arthritis in the spinal joints.
- Neck pain and stiffness, including the version that builds from long hours at a screen or behind a wheel.
- Chronic headaches, particularly those originating at the base of the skull and traveling forward from tension in the neck and upper back.
- Mid and upper back pain, felt between the shoulder blades and aggravated by prolonged sitting and repetitive motion.
- Subluxation, where a vertebra sits out of its proper position and irritates the surrounding nerves.
- Joint stiffness and reduced mobility, including shoulder, hip, and extremity joints outside the spine.
Chiropractic care also plays an important supporting role in our joint, neuropathy, and accident injury plans. Restoring proper mechanics is frequently what allows other treatment to work as intended.
What to Expect From Chiropractic Care At Birch Pain And Spine Group
1. A full evaluation before any treatment.
Your first visit is examination and conversation. We take a detailed history, assess your posture, range of motion, and joint function, and take X-rays here if they will inform the plan. Nobody is adjusted before we understand what we are adjusting and why.
2. Your report of findings.
Dr. Yousofi explains what she found in plain language, including which structures are involved, what is realistic to expect, roughly how many visits it should take, and what it will cost. You get to ask questions before anything is decided.
3. Adjustments and manual therapy.
Treatment restores motion to restricted joints, reduces pressure on irritated nerves, and improves alignment. Technique is matched to you, including gentler, low-force methods for patients who prefer them or whose condition calls for them.
4. Soft tissue work.
Muscles that have been guarding an irritated joint for months need their own attention. Manual soft tissue techniques release that tension and improve circulation into the area, which is often what allows an adjustment to hold rather than undoing itself within a day or two.
5. Corrective exercise and practical guidance.
You will get specific exercises to reinforce the changes, along with straightforward advice on posture, workstation setup, lifting, and sleeping positions. This is what turns temporary relief into something durable.
6. Reassessment, and honest conversation about maintenance.
We measure your progress against your starting point. When you have reached your goals, we will say so. Some patients choose periodic maintenance care and others do not, and either is a legitimate decision.
When Adjustments Alone Are Not the Answer
When Adjustments Alone Are Not the Answer
Most chiropractic offices can offer you an adjustment. What sets this one apart is what happens when an adjustment is not enough on its own.
Some conditions need more. A significantly herniated disc may need decompression to relieve the pressure before manual care can hold. An inflamed joint may need a physician-administered injection to calm down enough to respond to treatment. Damaged tissue with poor blood supply may need regenerative therapy to heal at all. In a standalone practice, each of those means a referral, a waiting list, and a new provider starting from scratch with your history.
Here, Dr. Yousofi works alongside Dr. Joseph Sclafani, M.D., QME, who is double board-certified in Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Megan O’Connor, MSN, FNP-BC. If your case needs spinal decompression, PRP, or prolozone therapy, it is available in the same building, on the same plan, from a team already familiar with your case.
It also works in the other direction. If chiropractic care is not the right tool for your problem, you will be told so directly rather than kept on a schedule that is not helping. Our number one priority is improving your quality of life, and sometimes the honest answer is that the answer lies elsewhere.
Dr. Yousofi opened the Tracy office in 2004, and in twenty-plus years on 11th Street she has treated a good portion of this town, frequently across generations of the same family.
The problems that walk through the door reflect how Tracy works. There are the commuters, whose spines absorb two or three hours in a driver’s seat on top of a full workday, five days a week. There are warehouse and distribution workers, whose backs and shoulders carry the load of repetitive lifting and full shifts on concrete. There is agricultural work with its bending and reaching, office work with its screens and chairs, and retirees who simply want to keep gardening and picking up grandchildren without paying for it the next morning.
Patients come to us from Mountain House, Lathrop, Manteca, Stockton, Lodi, and Ripon. You will find the office at 227 East 11th Street, on 11th by Tracy High School, directly across from McDonald’s and sharing a parking lot with Center Appliances, with free parking a few steps from the door.
